The Chemical Club of New England, Inc. is a social organization of chemical industry sales personnel. Formed in 1946 and incorporated in 1947, we are the oldest chemical sales association in the United States.
Origin of the Club
On October 29, 1945, six men met at Patton’s Restaurant in Boston to discuss the possibility of forming a club of men associated with the chemical industry in New England.
This initial group plus five more men met November 26, 1945, when a committee was appointed to draw up a constitution. This was submitted and adopted January 30, 1946. The first annual meeting was held on April 8, 1946, at the Parker House in Boston, and Mr. A. A. Lawrence was elected President.
Following this, a dinner meeting was held May 27, 1946. During the summer two outings were held, one in July at Woodland Golf Club, Auburndale, Mass., and one in September at Pawtucket Golf Club, Pawtucket, R.I.
The first Annual New England Chemical Dinner, which was held at the Hotel Somerset, Boston, March 25, 1947, was attended by 160 members and guests, indicating that an organization had been established which would live and prosper.
Necessary legal steps were taken to incorporate the Club under the laws of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This incorporation became effective August 4, 1947.
